I don’t know about you, but I have a really tough time “thinking outside of the box.” Even if I see something that inspires me, I find I just end up copying it because I just can’t seem to see beyond it. I knew I needed to find some exercises to increase creativity.
This is especially true for any lettering challenges I take part of on Instagram. Once I see how someone else has done it, it’s very difficult for me to not do something similar.
Is it just me, or can anyone else relate to this?

- Sketch something with your opposite hand
- Write a sentence backwards
- Print your sentence upside down

These ones are more abstract: Daydream, get moving, create psychological distance.
One of the suggestions that showed up a few times was to look at something Blue or Green:
“Researchers say that’s because we associate blue with the ocean, sky, and openness in general, while green signals growth.”
I think I’ll definitely be hanging some blue and green images above my crafting desk.
